The startup community is a great place for students of all ages to begin developing an innovative mindset while getting a glimpse into entrepreneur life. This is our curated list of events and programs across Calgary’s ecosystem that are grooming the next generation of entrepreneurs. 

February

  • Energy New Venture Competition hosted by the University of Calgary is Canada’s leading early-stage pitch competition dedicated to the advancement of emerging innoations for the energy sector.

  • Startup Weekend hosted by Startup Calgary helps entrepreneurs of all ages build, validate and launch a tech startup of the course of a weekend.

  • VentureQuest Business Idea Competition hosted by Bow Valley College gives students the opportunity to launch their business plans successfully.

March

April 

  • AccelerateAB hosted by The A100 for entrepreneurs of all ages. Discounted student tickets available.

May

  • The Summer Incubator Program hosted by the Hunter Hub for Entrepreneurial Thinking and the Faculty of Graduate Studies from May - August gives students the opportunity to spend their summer at The Inc, receiving valuable support to help them launch new ventures.

June

  • INVENTURE$ Student Entrepreneur Track hosted by Alberta Innovates for post-secondary students and new grads.

  • Startup Weekend hosted by Startup Calgary helps entrepreneurs of all ages build, validate and launch a tech startup of the course of a weekend.

  • Student Startup Symposium hosted by 150 Startups for junior high and high school students.

  • Student + Speaker Breakfast hosted by TEDxYYC for students ages 17 and older.

July

September

  • 150 Startups is a province-wide entrepreneurship development program for first-time entrepreneurs in colleges and universities across Alberta. Programs runs for one full year.

October

  • Startup Weekend hosted by Startup Calgary helps entrepreneurs of all ages build, validate and launch a tech startup of the course of a weekend.

November

  • Big Ideas Lab hosted by the University of Calgary provides students from across campus with a forum to share their ideas, form interdisciplinary teams, and begin building out their ideas with the help of mentors.

Ongoing Programs

  • Kids Code AB is a petition working to add coding to the K-12 curriculum.

  • EvolveU is a non-profit education program to help address the skills gaps in the fast-growing digital economy for mature students. Produced ion partnership with Rainforest Alberta and Calgary Economic Development.

  • LaunchPad Learning provides coding classes for kids (ages 5+) and adults including after school programs, summer camps and virtual classes.
